How to Make Your Sheet Masks More Effective

What’s one thing we all have and can never have too much of? Sheet masks! These gooey and burglar-looking masks are great pick-me-ups for your well-being and skin. Had a long day at work? Throw on a sheet mask. Skin feeling dry because of the hot weather? Reach out for that sheet mask. Friday nights with scented candles and me-time? It’s never complete without a good o’ sheet mask! Whether you use one daily or weekly, here’s some tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your sheet masks.

Pop ‘em in the fridge

You probably have sheet masks stacked in your drawer somewhere but why don’t you store some in the refrigerator? Aside from being a mini luxury experience, chilled face masks are great for calming inflamed skin and cooling down sun-exposed skin.

Start with a clean face

This might be a “duh” thing but whether you have make-up on or not, you should always wash and cleanse your face before masking. Applying a mask to dirty skin is an absolute no-no and might even worsen the condition of your skin.

Make sure it fits

Sheet masks come in a variety of textures and sizes and they’re usually too big for your face. After aligning the mask to your eyes and nose, sometimes the rest of the sheet fits awkwardly on the face. One way to overcome this is to cut the mask so that it will fit perfectly (or almost perfect at least). Click here to find out how and where to create slits in your masks for a better fit.

Use up all the extra essence in the packet

Once your masking time is up, which depends on the time recommended on the back of the packaging, pour out the extra essence from the packet and massage it into your face, neck and other parts of your body. You can also scrunch up your used sheet mask and rub it onto your elbow and knees to keep them hydrated and smooth the next day.

Don’t wash your face after masking

Last but not least, do not make the mistake of washing your face after masking. You should massage the essence into your skin so as to soak up all the goodness of the mask maximise its benefits.
